Surroundings
An exploration on foot from Sheen Woods Resort takes a short distance to the fine natural landscape that surrounds it as touted. It is set right along the roaring banks of the mighty Sindh River, and one can while away an appreciable amount of time just strolling across this river, viewing Thajiwas mountain range. For photographers and nature lovers, there are plenty of lush meadows, pine forests and in every twist one finds the picturesque snow-capped peaks, this is surely no town walk it’s completely a Himalayan wilderness ‘walk’.
If one needs structure in an activity, then Thajiwas Glacier is the best walking or pony-trekking starting point. Hiring ponies can be done mainly down a side road, a short distance away from the resort area. From the viewpoint, one walks out to the glacier; several valleys are crossed and one gets much nearer to the snowline. So, the proximity of this last-named to glacier-trekking is one great merit in resort site. One can walk out from one's threshold and straight into one's adventure.
One has to understand that the resort is set at a remote and natural location. There isn’t a village, town, markets, or even another restaurant walking distance around it. All commercial action is restricted to the main Sonamarg market, many kilometers away. The experience here is totally self-contained and concentrates on the environment of nature. Guests should not expect to be able to walk to a store for provisions; you truly are in the middle of the mountains, which is the main delight of Sonamarg.
